A team of experts in the field of psychiatry are revising the old DSMIV-tr. Much consideration is being given to moving the diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome out of the autism category.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association is the basis for clinical diagnosis most generally used in the United States. Diagnoses are not only the basis for educational strategies and therapies, they are also the criteria for insurance coverage and entitlement programs. Right now, a team of experts in the field of psychiatry are revising the old DSMIV-tr.
