Mind Reading: the interactive guide to
emotions
Created by Simon Baron-Cohen, Jacqueline Hill, Ofer Golan, and Sally Wheelwright
at the Autism Research Centre of the University of Cambridge in the UK, this
program (available for Windows and Mac on DVD-Rom and CD-Rom) uses actors to
portray over 5000 video and audio expressions of emotion. There is an "Emotions
library" where 412 different emotions are organized into 24 groups. Video clips
of people of all ages demonstrate through the use of stories, definitions and
explanations of the facial expressions. The "Learning Center" includes lessons and
quizzes. The "Games Zone" allows users to have a bit of fun while practicing and
testing their skills. Here users will find a special visitor -- the young actor
who portrays Harry Potter. This program is exceptionally well done.

Parent Coaching Cards
by Steven A. Richfield, PhD
This is NOT a book but rather a set of cards, held together with a ring, which help teach social skills to children. They were developed by Dr. Richfield as a result of working with ADHD children, but they've also been endorsed by Tony Attwood, PhD. I want to explain why I only give these cards a one star rating. It's not because I don't think they are useful, but rather because they are very expensive for what they are. I've noted that of all the items listed on this bookstore, this is the one item that is returned most often. I believe it's because of the price. Please keep this in mind when you order this item.

Teach Me Language: A Language Manual for children with autism,
Asperger's syndrome and related developmental disorders.
By Sabrina Freeman, PhD and Lorelei Dake
When I first saw the title of this book I thought that it was primarly for nonverbal children.
I was very wrong. This is an excellent book and useful for teaching concepts from friendship
to grammer to letter writing to word problems and much more. I think it's a wonderful resource.
